La Tecnica

THE TECHNIQUE

DSC_0161.jpg

The constituent material of each painting is acrylic on canvas.

Depending on the subject made, it may have the addition of sand or putty.

The first step is to create a relief where the design will take center stage from the beginning to the end of the work.

Sand, a natural material dear to the artist. It is used as soon as the drawing is created. Throwing it gently on the fresh paint, it blends together with it to create a delicate and rough consistency, in total harmony with nature.

Once dried, the painter arranges the color in different sends, until the desired shades are created.

La vita

The life

Giglia Acquaviva was born just before spring 1961 in Mendoza, Argentina, in a family where art was not lacking: music, painting and theater.

From the age of 5, the most carefree times are spent playing on the piano keys, dreaming of imitating the jazz musicians of the time. During the family's stay in California, the United States, Giglia grows near the beautiful mountains of Yosemite Park. The place arouses a strong emotion in her for the beauty of Nature and awakens the need for a language to express it.

At ten he returned to Argentina, where he seriously studied music. At the age of 22, the piano and the composition could have allowed the beginning of a long artistic life, but she feels the need to conquer a medium that attracts her with distressing energy: the Color.

As if to take a break, Giglia opens a new parenthesis in his life giving himself to the creation of a technique that would later prove to be the beginning of his pictorial career. His first productions made use of leather tapestries, embedded shapes of beautiful weaving and coloring.
For fifteen years he devoted himself almost exclusively to the reproduction of works by great masters: Picasso, Gauguin, Magritte, Klimt, Cézanne, as well as anonymous artists of all times and cultures.

The production of tapestries passionately became his source of work and the method of learning.
But even an important challenge was missing: to create your own designs. For this he needed a new technique capable of responding to the spontaneity of ideas without losing expressiveness. Acrylic and sand were thus mixed with the use of unconventional work tools: tubes, brushes, paper, sponges and, of course, brushes. With this technique, drawing and color shared the same hierarchy: drawing, because it stood out in relief, color because it imitated the virtues of the skin that he knew so much.

Technique started in Argentina, but developed mainly in Italy, where he has lived since 2004.
Aware that his training was mainly based on the observation of the great masters, he opened his curiosity towards forms of expression of all cultures.Today you can see in his works the influence of Greek, Etruscan, Aztec, Inca art , Roman, Eastern, all gathered in a style that fully characterized it.
